Met Online

by Jane
(US)

After moving to a new state and not wanting to do the bar hopping scene, I reluctantly tried online dating through match.com.

Yeah, there were a lot of bad dates and serial daters out there, but my girlfriend encouraged me to not give up.

It took about six months for me to finally meet "the one", and am so glad I stuck with it.

It's funny, but I had thought I had seen all the profiles under my set of filters and then one night the computer sent me a message. It said something like "if you like so and so then maybe you'll like x, y and z" and it had more photos.

This one photo in particular caught my eye and I can't explain it but it, but it's the first time in my life I ever had an emotional connection to a photograph.

I went with my instincts and sent the reply anyway even though his profile had something that made me think it wouldn't work out. After a few conversations we set up a meeting at a coffee house.

I remember seeing him approaching the door I was saying inside my head, "please let this be him!" And it was! We chatted for so long we lost track of time, and then he invited me to dinner.

For our third date he took me to a gourmet food market, hand picked ingredients, and then cooked me the most amazing meal. We're talking steak with Gorgonzola and port wine reduction and home made coconut ice cream!

It's now almost 8 years later, and my sweetie never ceases to amaze me with his culinary and other talents :)

We almost didn't meet and it was a computer algorithm that matched us. Here's a word of warning to others doing online dating: Beware of putting up too may filters.

You can turn away really good potential partners if you're not open to finding out who they are.
